Kym Mazelle is an American singer born on August 10, 1960 in Gary, Indiana. She is recognized as one of the pioneers of vocal house and transatlantic dance music. Moving to the UK in the 1980s, she became a key figure on the British house scene, fusing the sounds of Chicago house with R&B and soul. She began her recording career in 1987 with the track "Taste My Love", produced by Marshall Jefferson. In 1989, she enjoyed her first notable success in the UK with "Wait", a duet with Robert Howard (aka Dr. Robert from The Blow Monkeys), which reached number 7ᵉ in the UK charts. The same year, she released her debut album Crazy, from which the singles "Love Strain" and "Useless (I Don't Need You Now)" were taken . In 1990, she joined Soul II Soul for the track "Missing You", featured on their second album Vol. II: 1990 - A New Decade. In 1991, she enjoyed further solo success with "No One Can Love You More Than Me", then in 1994 with the remix of "Young Hearts Run Free", a Candi Staton cover, which reached number 13ᵉ in the UK after appearing on the soundtrack to the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet. She also collaborates with The Rapino Brothers on "Love Me the Right Way" (1992), a house track that reaches number 22ᵉ in the UK chart. Thanks to her powerful voice, somewhere between gospel, soul and dance, Kym Mazelle has established herself as a pioneer of the vocal house sound in the UK. Her tracks are regularly included in compilations of dance and garage classics.
