Relax was founded in Bavaria in 1981. The band emerged from its predecessor, Spy. It is considered a representative of Bavarian dialect rock. The founding members are Peter Volkmann, Klaus Scheldt, Dieter Klier, and Claus Mathias. Their music blends rock, pop, and elements of the Neue Deutsche Welle with lyrics in the Bavarian dialect. Later, the group also incorporated influences from traditional Schlager music. Key members include Peter Volkmann, Claus Mathias, Sascha Eibisch, and Patrick Cox. The current lineup consists of Claus Mathias, Sascha Eibisch, and Patrick Cox. Peter Volkmann died on May 1, 2026, at the age of 74. The band’s well-known songs include “Radio hör’n,” “Weil i di mog, ” “Marie,” and “A weißes Blatt’l Papier.” Their recordings were released primarily in the 1980s and 1990s. The band received the Golden Tuning Fork award in 1985.
