Sally Whitwell, born in 1974 in Canberra, Australia, is a classical musician and teacher known for her work as a pianist. She began playing piano on her grandmother's instrument and later received formal training at the Australian National University’s School of Music, where she completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours in 1997. Whitwell's career took off when she released her debut solo album Mad Rush: Piano Music of Philip Glass in June 2011 on ABC Classics, which won the Best Classical Album award at the ARIA Music Awards later that year. Her subsequent albums include The Good, the Bad and the Awkward (2012) and All Imperfect Things: The Piano Music of Michael Nyman (2013), both of which were nominated for and won the Best Classical Album award at the ARIA Music Awards in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Whitwell has also collaborated with various artists, including Philip Glass.
