James Yuill, born July 20, 1981, is an English folktronica musician from London known for blending acoustic folk with electronic music. He began his recording career with the independently released album The Vanilla Disc (2005), followed by Turning Down Water for Air (2007), which was reissued by Moshi Moshi in 2009 after he signed with the label. The album earned critical acclaim and helped establish his reputation internationally. Yuill followed with Movement in a Storm (2010), These Spirits (2013), and A Change in State (2017). In addition to his solo work, he has remixed tracks for artists including Tilly & the Wall, Au Revoir Simone, and David Holmes, and collaborated with Charlie Westropp in the duo Hunger/Thirst. Renowned for his one-man live performances, Yuill combines vocals, acoustic guitar, laptops, and electronic programming into a distinctive folktronica sound.
