Alexander Gilman, born September 16, 1982, in Bamberg, Germany, is a violinist from a Jewish-Russian family of musicians. He began playing the violin at age six and gave his debut performance at Gasteig, Munich, at seven. Gilman's career gained international visibility in June 2006 when he won the WestLB Music Competition and was awarded a Stradivari violin by Frank Peter Zimmermann. He has since performed as a soloist and chamber musician in venues such as Berliner Philharmonie, Kölner Philharmonie, Musikverein, and Shanghai Concert Hall Minato Mirai Hall. Gilman's notable recordings include Italian Journey (2015) and Beethoven Recomposed (2020). He also founded the LGT Young Soloists orchestra in 2013, which has performed in major concert halls worldwide.
