Julia Wolfe, born on December 18, 1958 in the United States of America, is a prominent American composer. She graduated from the University of Michigan and co-founded the collective Bang on a Can with Michael Gordon and David Lang. Her music is published by Red Poppy Music (ASCAP) and distributed by G. Schirmer. Wolfe's career began to take shape with her early works such as Amber Waves of Grain (1988). She has composed numerous pieces, including orchestral works like "Tell me everything" (1994), chamber music such as on seven-star-shoes (1985), and large ensemble compositions like Arsenal of Democracy (1993). Wolfe's notable albums include Steel Hammer (2014) and Anthracite Fields (2015), the latter of which earned her the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2015. She has also served as the director of composition at New York University’s Steinhardt School.
