Joseph Flummerfelt was an American conductor born on February 24, 1937 in Vincennes, India. He studied organ and music at DePauw University. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1958 and later pursued advanced studies in choral conducting at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music and the University of Illinois. Flummerfelt became the director of choral activities at DePauw University and Florida State University, followed by his appointment as artistic director and principal conductor at Westminster Choir College in 1971. He also held significant roles with the Spoleto Festival USA and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Italy. He was also appointed chorus master of the New York Philharmonic, where he made his debut in 1988. Flummerfelt's discography included albums like O Come, All Ye Faithful (2005), Ĺ’uvres Chorales (2008), Heaven to Earth (2012), and Legacy (2012). He passed away on March 1, 2019.
