Brillig, an Australian band was founded in 2000 by singer and guitarist Matt Swayne. The group took its name from Lewis Carroll's poem "Jabberwocky" from the book Through the Looking-Glass. Brillig signed with Black Rain Records in 2007, releasing their debut EP, The Plagiarist, that same year. Their initial releases were characterized by a blend of pop, rock, and electronic music, influenced by artists such as David Bowie, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Placebo, The Cure, and Johnny Cash. In 2007, Brillig also released their first full-length album, Mirror on the Wall, followed by The Red Coats, released in 2009 and featured a more acoustic, folk-oriented sound.
