British composer and pianist, Christopher Hawkins released his first album in 2017. 'Silent Conversations' hit the airwaves on the world's biggest Classical music radio station Classic FM and on BBC Radio. Recorded in Sheffield, England and released on the Heritage Records label the album reimagines the sound of ancient Sacred chants - a genre which had long held Christopher's fascination, with its timeless beauty, and contemplative reach.
Teaming up with Sheffield-based producer James Bacon, Christopher made full use of the studio's Bösendorfer Imperial - a piano prized for its richness of sound and singing sustain. Violinist and violist David Milsom's instrumental skills and scholarly background bring a unique and mesmerising dimension to the work, whilst cellist Liz Hanks (Liam Gallagher, Richard Hawley, Duane Eddy) brings soulful and sensitive performances to create the ideal warmth and sense of space, inviting the listener into a world free from the pressures of modernity.
In his second album 'Beneath the Night', Christopher emerges in the neo-classical genre, capturing transient moments from nightfall, alone at the piano. Less formal than the previous project, Christopher frees himself to express both sweet and soulful melodies in tracks such as 'Catch the Light' and 'Night Dance'. Unconstrained by the formalities of key and structure, Christopher explores a rich and powerfully evocative soundscape.
