Robert Cogoi was a Belgian singer born as Mirko Kogoj on 25 October 1939 in Châtelet. He studied to be an electro-mechanical technician before adopting the stage name Robert Cogoi on 22 April 1962. He achieved professional recognition with the track “Si un jour” (1962), which won the Grand Prix International des Variétés and received a gold record for sales exceeding 100,000 copies. Cogoi represented Belgium in the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Près de ma rivière” (1964), which also earned a gold record. His recording career included the studio albums Je serais mieux chez moi... (1963) and Robert Cogoi (1967), alongside the singles “Je m'sens très seul” (1963) and “Oublie Barbara” (1971). In 2004, he was named an Officer of the Order of the Crown and served on the board of directors for SABAM during the early 2000s. Cogoi died on 14 May 2022 in Lobbes.
