Les Tambours du Bronx is a French industrial percussion band that was formed in 1987 in Varennes-Vauzelles, France. They started with oil drums and pick-axe handles, and their radical approach was to start from the root. They found their tempo in the rhythm of the factory and workshops, and their music proceeded from their raw material, metal. Over the years, Les Tambours du Bronx has performed all over the world, and they have shared the stage with famous artists such as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), KoRn, Johnny Halliday, Metallica, Sepultura, and the Orchestra of the Laureates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
Les Tambours du Bronx is a sight to behold. Their music becomes flesh, and one exults with them. The band gives meaning to the phrase "living art": energy, flow, life itself emerge from the sound of this 16-head band which, far from leaving you unmoved, is fascinating and overwhelming. Their music blends synthetic sounds and samples and mingles rock, indus, techno, and afrobeat. The music is a collective production of gestures and fever, a choreography in which strength intensifies, the tempo is electrified, voices turn into shouts, all in a violently aesthetic cohesion.
In addition to their successful collaborations with Jaz Coleman and Les Frères Morvan, the Tambours du Bronx have also made a name for themselves in the world of heavy metal. Their electrifying performances at Rock in Rio alongside Sepultura have been particularly noteworthy. Their unique blend of traditional percussive instruments and modern heavy metal is showcased on their first industrial metal album, Weapons of Mass Percussion, which was met with critical acclaim and extensive touring.
Their second metal album, Evilution, was released in 2023. The album marks a significant departure from their previous work, as they incorporated drums and guitars to create a powerful and dynamic sound. With this album, Les Tambours du Bronx continue to push the boundaries of musical experimentation and creativity.
