Ola Håkansson founded the Swedish pop group Ola & The Janglers in 1962, drawing on British Invasion and garage-rock influences. The band’s first single, released in 1964 as "The Janglers with Ola", marked the beginning of a prolific recording period dominated by covers of UK and U.S. hits such as "Poetry in Motion" and "Runaway". In 1965 the group issued its debut album Surprise, Surprise, followed decades later by the compilation The Singles 1964–1967 (2014), while their original studio album Let’s Dance was released in 1969. The single "Let’s Dance" entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on 24 May 1969, reaching number 92 and remaining on the chart for three weeks, marking the first appearance of a Swedish act on the chart. Throughout the mid-1960s the band toured extensively in Sweden, achieving chart success with several singles. After the group’s dissolution, Håkansson continued his career by forming the pop ensemble Secret Service in 1979, which featured drummer Leif Johansson. Ola & The Janglers remain recognized for pioneering Swedish pop export and for their early penetration into the American market, a milestone reflected in later retrospectives and reissues of their catalogue.
