Philip Sparke, born on December 29, 1951, in London, is a British composer and musician. He studied composition, trumpet, and piano at the Royal College of Music in London, graduating with distinction.
Sparke's breakthrough came with "The Land of the Long White Cloud 'Aotearoa'", commissioned for the Centennial Brass Band Championships in New Zealand. Other notable works include The Year of the Dragon (1984/85) and Orient Express (1986/92). He notably won the BBC EBU Composition Contest three times consecutively. Sparke has composed numerous pieces for brass band competitions worldwide, including works for events in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
