Bree Tranter first came to prominence as a vocalist, flutist, and keyboardist for the acclaimed indie/folk band The Middle East, who rose to fame before disbanding in 2011. In 2024, the band reunited to support Zach Bryan’s Quittin Time Tour, including a special return to the Sydney Opera House for Spunk Records’ farewell concert.
Between chapters with The Middle East, Bree carved out a successful solo and session career. Signing with Gaga Publishing, she released her debut solo album Another Night On Earth in 2016, a striking blend of electronic textures and live band arrangements. Tracks from the record were featured in international TV shows such as Love Sick, Queen Sugar, and Five Bedrooms.
As a sought-after session musician, Bree has collaborated with Passenger, Thelma Plum, Matt Corby (with whom she toured for eight years), and Timberwolf. In 2023, she co-founded the duo Siberian Tiger, performing at major South Australian festivals including WOMADelaide, and receiving recognition through the Robert Stigwood Fellowship and a SA Music Award.
Since making Adelaide her base in 2016, Bree has scored three South Australian short films (Aftershock, Happy Anniversary, Dragon’s Breath) and created original works for First Nations contemporary dancers. Her artistry extends beyond music into photography and nature-inspired composition, highlighted during the 2023 Nature Festival.
In 2024, Bree returned with her single WITHIN + WITHOUT, co-produced with Jesse Davidson, accompanied by a music video filmed in Belair National Park by Nick McKk (Julia Jacklin, John Butler). The release marked another chapter in her evolving creative journey.
Now in 2025, Bree celebrates the 10th anniversary of her breakthrough single Tuesday Fresh Cuts—her most recognised songwriting accomplishment—with a brand-new remix by longtime friend Matt Corby, set for release later this year.
