Her breakthrough came with the release of her second studio album, Kutob (1978), under Wonderland Records, which featured the hit track "Bakit?" Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Papin released multiple albums including I Love You, Imelda, Imelda Papin, and Mel, establishing herself as a prominent figure in Pinoy pop. She later relocated to Las Vegas, performing regularly at venues like the Orleans Showroom. Notable songs from her extensive discography include "Isang Linggong Pag-Ibig" and "Bakit (Kung Liligaya Ka sa Piling ng Iba)."
