Pascal Vonlanthen, known professionally as Gustav, was born on April 29, 1975 in Fribourg, Switzerland. His musical aptitude manifested early; by sixteen he was composing and performing publicly, and he began his solo career in 1998 with the debut album Die Erste, presented with his ensemble Das Kummerorchester. He followed this with Gegen Süden – Vers le Sud (2000), his first record to feature his bilingual French–German style. Subsequent albums followed: Rosemary’s Bar (2002), Ultra Vista (2005), Les Jardins de mon Coeur (2007), the 2010 release 666 under Universal Music Group Switzerland, The Holy Songbook (2013), and 9 (2016). His 2011 double album Trésors & Trouvailles reached number 2 on the Swiss charts. He also wrote the 2010 single "100 000 gouttes d'eau", which helped raise over 7 million Swiss francs to support people's access to clean water. Gustav’s 2016 composition "Tous Ensemble" served as the official Swiss entry for Euro 2016, and he has performed in France, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, and England. He received awards such as the 2011 Atec prize and the 2012 bilingualism award from the Fribourg canton.
