Elisabeth Janda, known professionally as Elsbeth Janda (and later Elsbeth Nötzoldt), was a German cabaret artist, chanson singer, and actress born on December 27, 1923, in Mannheim, Germany. She studied musicology, art history, and philosophy at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. In the 1950s, Janda began her stage career with her husband, Fritz Nötzoldt, performing cultural-historical cabaret programs worldwide through the Goethe-Institut. She worked extensively for radio and television from 1962 onwards, notably as a moderator at Südwest 3 from 1978 to 1986. Janda's contributions to promoting the Kurpfälzisch dialect were recognized with several awards, including the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande in 1969 and the Richard-Benz-Medaille in 2004. Her notable collaborative releases include Die Moritat vom Bänkelsang (1959) and Lieder aus dem Ghetto (1962). Janda passed away on April 9, 2005, in Heidelberg.
