Jan Hellriegel, born and raised in West Auckland, New Zealand, is a singer-songwriter known for pop and rock music. She took vocal training at St Mary's College and later joined her brother's Dunedin band Working With Walt while studying at the University of Otago. In the late 1980s, Hellriegel formed Cassandra's Ears, an all-woman band that released two EPs (Private Wasteland and Your Estimation). She went solo, signing with Warner Records New Zealand in 1990, and released her debut album It's My Sin in 1992. Notable singles include "The Way I Feel" (1992), "Geraldine" (1995), and "Melusine" (1998). Hellriegel won Most Promising Female Vocalist at the 1996 New Zealand Music Awards, and Top Female Vocalist and Single of the Year for "Manic" at the Music and Entertainer Awards of New Zealand.
