Cantus, an eight-member low-voice a cappella ensemble, was founded in 1995 at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, USA. The group began as a student-run organization and transitioned into a professional ensemble by 1999, based out of Minneapolis. Cantus gained recognition for its innovative programming and riveting performances, covering music from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Their debut album Cantus was released in 2007, followed by notable releases such as "All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914" (2008), That Eternal Day (2010), and Christmas with Cantus (2011). Cantus has collaborated with various artists including Canadian Brass, Chanticleer, and Sweet Honey in the Rock. The ensemble received the Chorus America Margaret Hillis Award in 2009 and the Education Outreach Award in 2011. In recent years, Cantus has released albums on the Signum Classics label, including Manifesto (2021) and Into the Light (2023).
