Sympathy for Nothing, an Austrian melodic metalcore band, was founded in 2006 in Schwanenstadt. The original lineup included Klaus Schobesberger, Thomas Putz, Christian Danninger, Martin Wagner, and Christina Stur. In June 2008, Stur left the band due to personal issues and was replaced by Richard Thallinger. The band gained recognition after winning the International Live Award in 2008 and performing at notable festivals such as the Donauinsel-Festival and Frequency Festival. Their breakthrough came with the release of their EP Living Shades in February 2009, which received positive reviews from various internet magazines. In November 2009, they supported End of Green on their concert in Vienna. Sympathy for Nothing signed their first record deal with Terrasound Records in February 2010.
