Dutch rock 'n' roll band Long Tall Ernie and The Shakers, from Arnhem, was formed in the mid-1960s as The Moans by students of the Art Academy. Founding members included pianist Herman Brood, guitarists Erlend Josephy, Jos Hesseling, Alfons Haket, and drummer Alan Macfarlane. After Brood left to join Cuby and the Blizzards, the band continued under various names until 1972 when Arnie Treffers ("Long Tall Ernie") joined. Initially, Long Tall Ernie and The Shakers performed as a side project during The Moans' shows, but by 1973 they transitioned to a full-time rock 'n' roll act. Their first album, Put on Your Rockin' Shoes With Long Tall Ernie and The Shakers, was released in 1972, followed by It's a Monster in 1973. Notable singles include "Big Fat Mama" and "Get Yourself Together". In 1974, Treffers released solo material under his own name. The band achieved significant chart success with "Do You Remember", which reached Number 1 in Belgium and the Netherlands in 1977 and peaked at number 20 in Germany. Long Tall Ernie and The Shakers disbanded in 1982.
