Iztok Mlakar is a Slovenian singer-songwriter and theatre actor from Postojna, born on June 21, 1961. He spent his youth in Nova Gorica and graduated from the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana in 1986. Since 1984, he has worked as an actor at the Slovenian National Theatre of Nova Gorica. Mlakar released his debut studio cassette, Štorije in baldorije, in 1990, followed by a compact disc release in 1992. His discography includes Balade in štroncade (1994), Rimarije iz oštarije (2001), Romance brez krjance (2008), and Porkaeva! (2017). He also recorded the collaboration album Iztok Mlakar, Marko Hatlak & Funtango in 2019. Mlakar performs ironic chansons in the Littoral and Karst dialects of Slovenia, with songs such as "Pepi Žbaradorija" and "Brika" addressing social commentary and daily life. He received the Ježek Award in 1993, the Prešeren Fund Award in 2012, and the Golden Whistle for lifetime achievement in 2018.
