Tsatthoggua, a German black metal band from Marl, was formed in 1989 under the name Dissection. After changing their name to Tsatthoggua, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, they secured a record deal with Osmose Productions following the release of their 1995 demo Siegeswille. Their debut album, Hosanna Bizarre, was released in 1996 and featured guest vocals by Nicole Szumiga. The band gained attention for their unique BDSM-themed imagery and aggressive black metal sound. They toured with notable acts such as Marduk and Sear Bliss, and released their second album Trans Cunt Whip in 1998. After releasing the EP German Black Metal in 1999, Tsatthoggua disbanded. The band reformed in December 2019 and planned for new releases and concerts, but these were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the band reformed and released a compilation titled Hallelujah Messiah (2020), featuring remastered tracks from their earlier demos and EPs.
