Darkwell, a metal band from Innsbruck, Austria, was formed in 1999 by bassist Roland Wurzer and guitarist Roman Wiencke. The group signed with Napalm Records and began recording their debut album Suspiria in March 2000. Darkwell's initial success included tours with Tristania and The Sins of Thy Beloved, as well as performances at the Wave Gothic Meeting festival before their first album was released. Their follow-up EP Conflict Of Interest, released in 2002, featured a cover of Tanita Tikaram's "Twist in my sobriety" and led to tours with Ashes You Leavy and headlining shows in the Netherlands. In 2003, vocalist Alexandra Pittracher left the band, replaced by Stephanie Meier. Darkwell released their final album Metatron in 2004, which showcased Meier's powerful vocals and diverse musical styles.
