Cheech & Chong, an American comedy duo consisting of Richard "Cheech" Marin and Thomas "Chong" Bagnal, originated in Los Angeles, California. They began their career as a stand-up comedy act in the early 1970s. Their breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled debut album Cheech & Chong in 1971, which included the single "Santa Claus and His Old Lady". The duo's unique blend of humor and music quickly gained popularity. The following years saw a series of successful albums including Big Bambú (1972), Wedding Album (1974), and Up in Smoke (1978). 1973 album Los Cochinos won the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Recording. Their comedy albums often featured sketches and songs that satirized drug culture, social issues, and everyday life. Cheech & Chong also ventured into film, releasing several successful comedy movies such as Up in Smoke (1978) and Nice Dreams (1981), which further cemented their status as cultural icons. In 1982 was released the compilation Cheech & Chong's Greatest Hit (1981), followed by Where There's Smoke There's Cheech and Chong... in 2002.
