Josef Laufer, born Don José Pedro Rodriguez de Montagnes de Laufer on August 11, 1939, in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France, was a Czech singer. Laufer's music career began with his first EP release Fever in 1966, which included the single "Fever / Michelle". He continued releasing EPs and albums like Josef Laufer's Many Faces (1968) and Dospělým Dětem (1976). He also had notable singles such as "Quo Vadis / Holiday In Spanien" and "Lady". Laufer performed in various shows and tours across Europe with his band Golem. His work included collaborations on television, film, and theater. Notably, he played the lead role of Egon Erwin Kisch in the TV series Tržiště senzací (1980s). Laufer's career was marked by both success and controversy, including a 1976 song "Dopis Svobodné Evropě" that led to his association with the communist secret police. He passed away on April 20, 2024, at the age of 84.
