Born Marie-Claire Girod in Metz, France on February 14, 1957, pop singer Buzy enjoyed several hits in the early 1980s, before pursuing her career as an independent artist. She taught tap-dancing before being spotted by lyricist Étienne Roda-Gil and recording her first song, "Dyslexique" (1980), which was a big radio hit. The album Insomnies (1981) brought her a rock hit with the song "Engrenage,” and in 1983, the album Adrian, which included the hit title track, was released on the CBS label. A household name in her home country, Buzy attracted Serge Gainsbourg, who took the cover photo for the album I Love You Lulu (1985) and she recorded the song "Gainsbarre" as a tribute to him. In 1987, the singer scored her biggest chart success with "Body Physical," which reached number 19 in the Top 50. After the less-successful albums Rebel (1989), Rêve Éveillé (1993) and Délits (1998), Buzy continued to work as an independent artist. In 2004, she published her autobiography, Engrenages, and recorded the album BorderLove (2005), composed with Jay Alanski and featured a duet with Daniel Darc. In 2010, Gérard Manset, Daran, Rodolphe Burger and Jean Fauque took part in writing her album Au Bon Moment, au Bon Endroit (2010), which was followed by a tribute to her by the French indie scene entitled Tous Buzy (2011). Her final album, Cheval Fou, was released in 2019. Produced by Arnold Turboust, it featured duets with Bertrand Belin and Anna Mouglalis. On November 14, 2023, Buzy died of and undisclosed illness at the age of 66.
