Joanna, born Maria de Fátima Gomes Nogueira in Rio de Janeiro on January 27, 1957, is a Brazilian singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose career spans over four decades. She began her musical journey at the age of 12 when her father gifted her a guitar, leading her to participate in music festivals and perform in nightclubs. In 1979, she released her debut album Nascente, featuring the hit "Descaminhos" co-written with Sarah Benchimol. Throughout the 1980s, Joanna solidified her place in Brazilian music with albums like Estrela Guia (1980), Chama (1981), and Vidamor (1982), delivering classics such as "Momentos," "Nos Bailes da Vida," and "Vertigem." Her 1986 self-titled album achieved triple platinum status, propelled by the success of "Amanhã Talvez" and "Um Sonho a Dois" featuring Roupa Nova. In the 1990s, she explored thematic projects, including Joanna Canta Lupicínio (1994) and Joanna em Samba-Canção (1997), showcasing her versatility. The 1998 Spanish-language album Intimidad expanded her reach in Latin America. In 1999, she celebrated two decades in music with the live album 20 Anos Ao Vivo, introducing the hit "Tô Fazendo Falta." In 2020, Joanna released Aqui e Agora, marking her return to original compositions after nearly two decades, reuniting with longtime collaborator Sarah Benchimol.
