Known for radio hits and television theme songs like "Dried Up Youthful Fame," OLDCODEX is Japanese band co-founded by Tatsuhisa Suzuki (more popularly known by his stage name, Ta_2) and R.O.N in 2009. Based in Tokyo, the group earned its first Top 40 hit in 2010, when "[Blue]" reached number 29 on the Oricon Singles chart. OLDCODEX released a full-length debut album, Hidemind, that same year. Charting at number 44, the album was followed by 2012's Contrast Silver, which reached number 28. The group also began contributing songs to a number of Japanese anime productions and earned a significant hit in 2013, when "Rage On" (originally released as part of the TV series Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club) charted at number 6 in Japan. Throughout the rest of the decade, the band's albums enjoyed Top 10 success, too, with 2014's A Silent, Within the Roar, 2015's Pledge, 2016's Fixed Engine, 2017's They Go, Where?, and 2019's Ladderless all reaching the upper reaches of the Oricon Albums chart. TV shows continued to be a delivery system for OLDCODEX's music, too, with "Dried Up Youthful Fame" (the TV theme song to Free! Eternal Summer, as well as a number 7 hit in Japan), "Aching Horns" (the theme to High Speed! -Free! Starting Days-, as well as a number 10 hit), "Heading to Over" (a number 9 single that doubled as the theme to Free!-Dive to the Future-), and "Feed A" (a number 13 song that opened the TV series God Eater) all maintaining the band's success throughout the late 2010s. After a long run of hits, the group disbanded on May 31, 2022.
