Joseph Judewitz, known professionally as Joe Young, was an American lyricist born in New York City to immigrant Jewish parents. He began his career in 1911 as a singer and song-plugger for music publishers, later performing for U.S. troops during World War I in Europe. Among his early works is “Way Down East” (1910), with lyrics by Cecil Mack and music co-composed by Young and Harold Norman. In 1931, he contributed to the Broadway show The Laugh Parade, collaborating with Mort Dixon and composer Harry Warren on songs including “You’re My Everything.” Joe Young died in New York City on April 21, 1939, and was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
