Rhiannon Afua Benson, known professionally as Rhian Benson, was born on 10 January 1977 in Accra, Ghana, and is a Ghanaian‑British jazz and neo‑soul singer. After early musical training on piano and guitar, she entered the London music scene, where she released her debut single "Say How I Feel" in 2003, reaching number 27 on the UK Singles Chart. In the same year she issued her debut album Gold Coast, co‑produced with Bob Power and James Poyser, and later signed with Los Angeles‑based DKG Music. Benson won a Mobo Award in 2005. Her second album, Hands Clean, was released on 14 February 2011, featuring the single "Better Without You" and collaborations with the Danish production duo Jonas Rendbo and Daniel Fridell. The album was noted for redefining contemporary soul with electronic backing.
