John Scott Whiteley, born in 1950 in Leicester, England, is an English organist and composer. He was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys, London University, and the Royal College of Music. In 1976, he won first prize in the National Organ Competition of Great Britain for his performance of J.S. Bach's Clavierübung. That same year, Whiteley became Assistant Organist and Director of the Girls' Choir at York Minster, a position he held until 2010. He has performed extensively worldwide, including annual tours of the US since 1985, and in major UK cathedrals and concert halls. Whiteley's recordings include Great Romantic Organ Music (1987). In 2003, he began recording the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach on historical organs for BBC television productions titled 21st Century Bach.
