The Zawinul Syndicate was a jazz fusion band formed in 1988 by Austrian keyboardist Joe Zawinul. The group emerged from Zawinul's previous band, Weather Report, and maintained his roots in jazz while incorporating unusual grooves, driving rhythms, and influences from various music cultures. Their debut album, The Immigrants, was released in 1988, followed by Black Water in 1989. The band continued to release albums including Lost Tribes (1992), World Tour (1998), and Vienna Nights – Live at Joe Zawinul's Birdland (2005). The band performed their final concert on August 3, 2007, in Güssing, Austria. After Zawinul's death later that year, several members reformed to perform his music live under the name the Syndicate.
