Dong Young-bae, widely recognized by his stage names Taeyang and SOL, is a prominent South Korean singer, known for his remarkable career in both group and solo endeavours. Born on May 18, 1988 in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do, Taeyang's journey in the world of music began when he joined the immensely popular boy band BigBang in 2006. Capitalising on his fame, Taeyang released his first solo EP Hot, in 2008, which featured R&B elements and produced hits like "Only Look at Me" and "Prayer," garnering him recognition at the 7th Korean Music Awards. In 2010, Taeyang released his first full-length album, Solar, which sold out on on the first day of its release. The album topped the Gaon Album Charts and earned him the Best Male Artist award at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Taeyang continued to be active with BigBang, contributing to EPs like Tonight (2011) and Alive (2012). He also released the solo single "Ringa Linga" in 2013, setting the stage for his successful second album, Rise (2014). The album became a monumental success, becoming the top-charting K-pop album by a solo artist on the Billboard charts.
