Samuel Soden, known as Sam Fonteyn, was born on May 20, 1925, in Birmingham, England. He was a composer and pianist whose significant output was primarily for the Boosey & Hawkes Music Library. His compositions have been featured extensively on television since the 1970s. A notable example was his music library recording used as the theme for the British sitcom Please Sir! in 1968. He also composed "Pop Looks Bach", recorded in 1970, which became the theme of the long-running television program Ski Sunday. Fonteyn passed away on August 29, 1991, in Islington, London.
