Mats Paulson, real name Maths Paul Ingemar Paulsson, is a Swedish singer, songwriter, poet and painter born on January 28, 1938 in Linköping. A discreet but influential figure on the Swedish music scene, he is best known for his poetic songs about nature, love and melancholy, often accompanied by guitar. He began his recording career in 1964 with the album Tango i Hagalund, which already contained some of his favorite themes: the beauty of everyday life, the seasons, flowers and the sea. The success of this album established him as a singular voice, blending popular song with poetry. Over the decades, Mats Paulson has released some thirty albums, including Visor under träden (1966), En stad, en morgon (1971), Barfota i regn (1979), Serenad (1981) and Blommor och surr (1993). He collaborates with a number of Swedish artists, including Alexander Rybak, Linda Pira and Håkan Hellström. Alongside his music, he writes collections of poetry and exhibits his watercolors, often inspired by Swedish nature. His style is intimate, contemplative, sometimes tinged with a gentle nostalgia. His best-known songs include "Barfotavisan", "Visa vid vindens ängar" and "Baggenslåten". Right up to the end of his life, Mats Paulson remained faithful to a refined art rooted in the Swedish tradition of poetic song, while retaining a deeply sensitive personal touch. Mats Paulson, 83, died on September 19, 2021.
