Alex Skolnick, born September 29, 1968, in Berkeley, California, is an American musician. He started his career at age 15 with the thrash metal band Legacy, which became Testament. His debut album with Testament, The Legacy, was released in 1987. Skolnick contributed to four more albums with the band before leaving in 1992. He joined Savatage for the album Handful of Rain (1994) and formed The Alex Skolnick Trio in the early 2000s, releasing albums including Goodbye to Romance: Standards for a New Generation (2002). Skolnick returned to Testament in 2005. Releases include The Formation of Damnation (2008) and Dark Roots of Earth (2012), which debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
