Karthik Raja, born on June 29, 1973 in India, is a composer and Tamil playback singer based in Chennai. Raised in a family of musicians, he received formal training in Western classical music from the Trinity School of Music and Carnatic music from T.V. Gopalakrishnan and V. Dakshinamoorthy. At age 13, Karthik Raja played the keyboard for "Kannukkum" from Ninaikka Therinda Maname (1987). He composed his first song "Pandianin Rajiyathil" for Pandiyan (1992) and debuted as a fully-fledged composer with Alexander in 1996. Notable works include the soundtracks for Ullasam, Naam Iruvar Namakku Iruvar, Kadhala Kadhala, and Dumm Dumm Dumm. Raja also ventured into Hindi films with Grahan, winning the R.D. Burman Award for Best New Talent in 1998. His has also worked on the soundtracks for Padaiveeran (2018) and Mathimaran (2023).
