Grethe Clemmensen, born 17 June 1938 in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a vocalist who began performing at age 14 and later joined the cabaret circuit in 1954. After training as a seamstress, she entered the music scene as a chorister and joined the quartet The Malihini Hawaiians, eventually recording with Jørn Grauengaard’s trio. In 1955 she met guitarist Jørgen Ingmann, who had begun his career in jazz orchestras and later achieved a solo hit with "Apache" (1961). The couple married in 1956 and formed a duo, signing with Metronome Records. Their breakthrough came with the 1957 single "Slentre gennem regn" and the 1963 Eurovision victory for Denmark with "Dansevise", which earned them international attention and led to English and German versions of the song. They released the albums Der Sommer Ging Vorüber (1963) and Winners and Losers (1967), and toured Scandinavia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Their partnership ended with a final joint album in 1974 and a divorce in 1976. Grethe Ingmann passed away on 18 August 1990, and Jørgen Ingmann died on 21 March 2015.
