Tokyo-based rock band Nape officially debuted in May 2024 with their first single "Sentiments", marking the beginning of their journey in Japan’s alternative rock scene. The duo consists of Wataru, who handles both lead vocals and drums, and Issei, the band’s guitarist. Prior to forming Nape, the two gained recognition by performing at school festivals and local events, winning awards for their musical talent. They are also responsible for writing and composing all of their material. Drawing from a diverse set of influences—including punk, hip-hop, blues, funk, and Motown—Nape blends catchy melodies with emotional energy. Their sound is defined by Wataru’s unusual dual role as drummer and lead vocalist, combining sharp, dynamic percussion with a smooth vocal tone, and by Issei’s expressive guitar solos that reflect his funk and blues background. The result is a vibrant, genre-fluid approach that sets them apart from many of their contemporaries. In 2025, they followed up with the release of their second single "Self-made", continuing to build momentum. With growing attention from the indie and livehouse circuits.
