Ado Gegaj is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian folk music performer, composer, and instrumentalist. Born in Sarajevo, he began his musical journey with his brother Izet and sister Hajrija in the group “Najmlađi.”
He first gained recognition as a guitarist and bassist before establishing himself as a vocalist with a distinctive and expressive voice. His singing is known for its warmth, resonance, wide range, and adaptability to different musical styles. His repertoire spans fast duple-time songs, ballads, oriental melodies, sevdah, and classical folk music, making him a versatile performer.
Throughout his career, he has released albums under labels such as Diskos, Grand Production, and Gold Music, collaborating with renowned artists and producers including Srki Boy, Dragan Stojković Bosanac, and his brother Izet Gegaj, the composer of most of his hits. His lyrics were penned by some of the finest songwriters in the region, including Miki Jovičić, Milenko Jakšić, and Suad Okanović.
He has received numerous prestigious awards, including Song of the Year, Album of the Year, the Music Oscar, and the Award for Integrative Work and Musical Creativity, presented in 2023 by Peter Kaiser, Governor of Carinthia. He has performed across Europe, the United States, and Australia, often focusing on charity concerts and engagement with the diaspora.
His musical expression and emotional interpretation have made him one of the most authentic folk performers from the former Yugoslav region.
