Straitjacket Fits, an alternative indie rock four-piece, formed in Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1986. The band initially consisted of Shayne Carter (vocals and guitar), John Collie (drums), David Wood (bass), and Andrew Brough (guitar and vocals). Their first EP, Life In One Chord, was released in 1987, featuring the song "She Speeds". After the release of their debut album, Hail (1988), the band visited Australia and then embarked on a European tour. Melt (1990) included hits such as "Down in Splendour" and "Bad Note for a Heart". Brough later left the band and was replaced by Mark Petersen. Straitjacket Fits released Blow in 1993, before disbanding in 1994 following a performance at Big Day Out. They were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2008, with three songs in the APRA Top 100 New Zealand Songs of All Time list: "She Speeds", "Down in Splendour", and "If I Were You".
