Sylvia Haydée Kersenbaum, born on December 27, 1941, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a pianist and composer. She began her musical studies at age four with her mother and later trained under Vicente Scaramuzza at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Buenos Aires. Kersenbaum made her debut in Buenos Aires in 1958 performing Beethoven's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1. In 1966, she studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Carlo Zecchi.Kersenbaum performed across Europe, Asia, New Zealand, the United States, and Mexico. Her discography includes recordings of works by Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Liszt, Mendelssohn, and others. In 1976, she moved to Kentucky, USA, joining Western Kentucky University (WKU) as a professor emerita in 1990. She was recognized for her performances of Beethoven's complete sonatas cycle and received the WKU Faculty Award for Research and Creativity in 1990.
