Yūji Ōno, born on May 30, 1941 in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, is a Japanese jazz pianist and composer. He began his professional career as a member of the Fujiya Niji Quintet while still a student, recommended by Takeshi Shibuya. Ōno played in the backing band for Hideo Shiraki, playing with the Hideo Shiraki Quintet for the album titled Hideo Shiraki Meets Yuzo Kayama. He later formed his own trio, the Yūji Ōno Trio. Throughout his career, Ōno collaborated extensively in film and television scoring, contributing to notable works such as Hayao Miyazaki's animated feature Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979). His album Cosmos was used in the Kobe Planetarium Theater for the Kobe Port Island Exposition in 1981. Ōno released several albums, including Tokyo City Lights (2004) and Y.O. Connection (2009)
