Ian Robert Gomm, born on March 28, 1947, in Chiswick, West London, is a British guitarist, singer, and songwriter. His musical journey began around 1962/1963 with the formation of Unit 4. Gomm's breakthrough moment came when he joined Brinsley Schwarz as their rhythm guitarist in 1970, a position he held until 1974. Following his time with Brinsley Schwarz, Gomm moved to Mid Wales and built a recording studio. His solo career commenced with the release of Summer Holiday in 1978, which was later re-titled and re-sequenced as Gomm With The Wind. The single "Hold On" from this album reached Number 18 in the United States and Number 44 in Canada in 1979. Gomm also co-wrote "Cruel to Be Kind" with Nick Lowe, which became a significant hit for Lowe, reaching Number 12 on the UK Singles Chart, Australian Kent Music Report, and U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1979. Throughout his career, Gomm released several solo albums, including What A Blow (1981), The Village Voice (1982), Images (re-released as Cheap Hearts Hurt, 1986), Crazy For You (1997), and Rock 'N' Roll Heart (2002).
