Born on August 17, 1991, in Anaheim, California, he made his debut as a background actor in 2005 on Nickelodeon's Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. His career took off in the following years with starring roles on the teen-oriented shows Hannah Montana, iCarly, and Zoey 101. In 2012, Austin Butler joined the cast of the Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries alongside actress Anna Sophia Robb.
