Masayuki Tanaka was born on 30 June 1951 in Imari, Saga Prefecture, Japan, and began his career as a pop vocalist. He first gained attention as one of the original singers of the band Crystal King, contributing to the chorus of the opening theme for the anime Fist of the North Star in the early 1980s. After departing Crystal King, Tanaka launched a solo career with the 1986 single "1000カラットのサマー・ブロンズ", which established his presence in the Japanese pop scene. He released the 2013 album YouはShock〜アニメ・特撮HIT COVERS and continued to record soundtrack work, including the 1998 "Ultraman Gaia!" collaboration with Kazuki Daimon and the 2004 "Katamari on the Rock" theme for the game Katamari Damacy. Tanaka’s vocal range was notably affected by a throat injury, yet he remained active, re‑recording "Kamen Rider Kuuga!" with Rider Chips in 2019 for the Heisei Kamen Rider 20 Titles Commemoration Best. His contributions to anime and tokusatsu soundtracks have secured a lasting place in Japanese pop culture.
