Matti Juhani Raekallio, also known as Matti Raekallio, born on October 14, 1954, in Helsinki, Finland, is a pianist. He studied in Helsinki, Vienna with Dieter Weber, London with Maria Curcio, and Saint Petersburg. Raekallio's debut at Carnegie Hall in 1981 marked an important moment in his career. His doctoral thesis, Sormituksen strategiat, focused on the history of piano fingering. Raekallio has held professorships at various institutions, including the Swedish Royal College of Music, Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, and the Sibelius Academy. Notable students include Igor Levit and Antti Siirala. He has served as a jury member for prestigious competitions such as the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. Raekallio's discography includes recordings of Sergei Prokofiev's complete Piano Sonatas and concertos by Aarre Merikanto, Anton Rubinstein, and Einar Englund. In 2009, he received an honorary doctorate from the Estonian Academy of Music.
