Finkwarder Speeldeel, a traditional music group from Finkenwerder, Hamburg, Germany, was founded in 1906 by Gorch Fock and Hinrich Wriede as a theater group. The group began incorporating folk dances and songs into their repertoire. The group continued to perform theater under the direction of Hinrich Wriede until 1920 after World War I ended. After a hiatus, the Speeldeel was revived in 1936 by Adolph Albershardt senior for Finkenwerder's 700th anniversary celebrations. The group gained significant popularity post-World War II, appearing on television as early as 1953 and embarking on international tours starting in 1954. Notable albums include Advent an de Waterkant (1979), Up See Un Tohus (1984), and Tohoop! (2006). The group's repertoire includes traditional dances from northern Germany, shanties, and songs in both High German and Low German. Finkwarder Speeldeel continues to perform and promote the cultural heritage of Hamburg and Northern Germany through their music and dance performances.
