Luc Houtkamp, born on December 4, 1953, in the Hague, Netherlands, is a Dutch saxophonist, clarinetist, and orchestra conductor. He began playing jazz in 1972, collaborating with musicians such as Kees Hazevoet and Sven-Åke Johansson. In the 1970s, he formed his own groups and worked with notable figures like Ernst Reijseger and Han Bennink. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Houtkamp collaborated with various artists including Gert-Jan Prins, Johannes Bauer, Conrad Bauer, Nicolas Collins, Martin Blume, Ezra Ngcukana, and Fred Van Hove. He released several albums, including Metslawier (1994), The Duo Recordings (1998), In Chicago (1999), and Exercise in Swing (2001). Houtkamp was notably awarded the Boy-Edgar Prize in 2004. In 2005, he received a four-year research stipend from the Dutch Ministry of Culture for his innovative use of software that allowed him to interact with computer-generated sounds.
